So you have a business, you have an Instagram account, now what? You need to start posting. But, what do you post?

There are different types of accounts on Instagram, but if you are a business you need to provide value to your audience. Remember that your audience is the hero, not you.

What Is Content Marketing?

The meaning is right there in front of us, marketing disguised in the form of content.

This is content that will provide a bit of insight into who you are, what your business does, and at the same time, bringing any potential client to the front door of your business.

This morning I was watching a recipe on YouTube and as I scroll down I saw this new “Short videos” recipe on what appeared to be some delicious tacos.

The recipe looked terrific. In the end, they drizzle the tacos with the sour cream brand behind the production of the video. This photo is not exactly the one I saw but it was very similar.

This is a great example of what content marketing is. The content is the recipe that anybody who’s hungry and loves tacos will watch, me. The marketing is right at the end, the very few second when they drizzle the cream and they show their logo. So, next time I go to the store I’ll remember their brand and I will probably buy it.

How Can You Apply This To Your Business?

I’m almost positive that you don’t sell sour cream and that you offer other products or services.

Content comes wrapped in different formats, here are some of the most popular:

  • Blogs
  • Videos
  • Infographics
  • Case Studies
  • Ebooks
  • Checklists
  • Cheat Sheets
  • Interviews
  • Podcasts
  • Memes

Now, I could tell you which one is the most popular, but that would be almost pointless, and here’s why. Each business has different needs and different ways to show their product or offer.

Going back to the sour cream example, they got my attention in the 10-second video I saw. Could they have written a blog about it? Maybe. Would it have been the best way to make their audience salivate without all the visuals? Maybe not.

Back when Instagram started, people were using it to look at pictures, now they have implemented “Stories”, “Reels” and “IGTV”, which is what they did for users to post videos. I believe some users are more inclined to watching the stories section than the feed.

Take Away

What I am trying to tell you here is that the content that you produce doesn’t have to be all about you, you can educate, motivate, bring value to your audience, and at the very end spice it up with your brand.

Here’s an example: If you need ideas on how to implement content marketing in your brand I would love to help, contact me.

Remember that Instagram is a multimedia platform, you can post pictures, write a short article in your post, add a snippet of a video, a snapshot of your ebook, anything to let your audience know you’re there for them.

If you have any ideas you would like to share about this article, feel free to post them in the comments.
